Parent Communiqué

Please check the latest “Updates”.

The 2010/11 Family Handbook is available and has answers to lots of questions you might have about school this year. Please take a look or download it to read at your leisure. Hard copies are available in the office. Please re-check the “Getting There” link, because I think I might have put the wrong information on that post. The school has a preferred drop-off pattern.I changed the Carpool information, because the IA carpool program looks easier.

Also, I am looking for a few good volunteers. I find myself busier this year and would like to pass along some of the things I did last year at IA. So far, I have one Room Parent and one volunteer for updating the School Directory. Anyone else want to roll up their sleeves?

I made a School Directory and updated it for winter and spring. :) (New IA mom Jesa Fulk volunteered for this! Yay!!!) :)

One of the other things I did was to start an Escrip program last year. I’m afraid I didnt do much with it then and I wonder if someone really likes this sort of fundraising. It’s easy and one of their best drives is already underway. (10% Back to Schools).  I believe Albertson’s and Ralph’s have similar programs. Would anyone want to take this on?????? :) :)

Also, I would like to find 2-3 volunteers  per classroom to help our teachers:

1) Room Parent who helps in the classroom and works with other classroom volunteers

2) Fundraising Parent to help organize “family night” fundraisers and yearly Scavenger Hunt fundraiser

3) Fieldtrip Parent to help organize regular rides and chaperones for your child’s off-campus events.

If you are interested in working with IA teachers this year,  please click the “Contact Me” link in the box below, and includes your child’s name, grade, your name and preferred contact info. Also be sure to mention what you would like to do for your child’s class. Thanks. I will pass the information along to the teachers.

Another fun volunteer post is the “DC volunteer”. This person works with individual teachers to place wish lists on “Donors Choose”,  a great charity that allows people to give to teachers directly. The DC volunteer could ask teachers  what they need for upcoming projects. They could collaborate with the teacher to write a proposal, take a photo of the class or teacher, and submit the proposal to Donor’s Choose. This would be a fun volunteer activity that shouldn’t take much time. It can be done at school or at home. (Photos can be taken by the teacher and proposals can be done by email, if needed)

We’re looking for family members to be Reading Buddies, who come to read to an individual child or to a small group. It can be one time or more regularly. Reading buddies can come in Tuesday through Thursday from 9am – noon, or can be scheduled at other times with your child’s teacher or Michelle Anderson (program manager), in advance.

A more personal way to volunteer is for parents and families to share their special talents and skills with children at IA. Be sure to drop me a line if you would like to give a presentation or demonstration in your child’s class or school-wide.

Volunteering is a great way to have fun and get involved with an educational community. You will meet lots of great people and will be helping your child succeed in school.  Just let me know which task is right for you by clicking on the “Contact Me” link in the box below. Can’t wait to see you!

Thanks, Old Tree

P.S. There are many more volunteer ideas in the Family Handbook .
